THING 10

I watched the video which moved along very fast but had good information on how a Wiki works. The key words are EDIT & SAVE along with LINK. I can see where this has alot of potential for corrdinating the perfect list. By clicking edit, you can add or change the document.
I think it is so neat to have the list of what I have and what the others are to bring and then link the other list to have a perfect camping/shopping/party list.

I was very impressed with the Book Lovers WIKI. What a great tool by have the reviews at your finger tips. I could see our patrons loving this so that they could see if they really wanted to read that particular book or not.

Next I went to the Albany Co. Public Library staff Wiki. This is a great way to keep staff informed on such things as circ staff information, schedules, upcoming events, etc.

On Library Bloggers Wiki, I visited Public Library blogs and clicked onto Austin, Texas blog and Hennepin County Library blog. Couldn't believe how many blogs there are to look at.

On Minnesota Wikis, I looked at the Minnesota Historical Society site. There are alot of resources, information and locations available along with all types of services.

I'm waiting on my invite password to add or edit an entry in a wiki.

I finally got into the 23things wiki and did some editing. It seems like it would be alot of fun to do as a group thing. Could really get creative with it by adding color, different fonts, backgrounds, pictures, just about anything goes. I clicked onto the comment area and added a few words. All in all, this wasn't as hard as I first thought it was.

Thing 9

Well after much frustration, I finally got a comment posted on the document page. I went to the minn23@gmail.com site and got invited to edit. It was fun reading all the comments on how people view this very important document and also the humor added. Powerful words stated in this Declaration. I keep thinking that maybe our candidates that are running for the highest office should remember these words. Just a thought

THING 8

Some of this was fun and challenging. Some is way out of the ballpark for me to find the time to do it. I love to be creative and doing the slideshare turned out to be the deal of the day. I had gone to lunch and noticed on the wall a quote: "If your not riding the wave of change.....You'll find yourself beneath it". I wrote it down and thought that this is a great statement. Then I started on my Slideshare and spoted the picture of the water coming over the lighthouse and I thought that this was a perfect slideshare to have with my quote for the day.

I went into Picture Trail and finally got that figured out and added to my blog. I tried to download the picture of our library but for some reason that file wouldn't transfer to my blog. Also created another flick of flowing pictures along with some fancy hearts.

I checked out all of Thing 8 and feel I did accomplish some things. Time to move on.

QUOTE FOR THE DAY

"IF YOUR NOT RIDING THE WAVE OF CHANGE....

YOU'LL FIND YOURSELF BENEATH IT".

Right after I finished Thing 7, I went to lunch and this saying was on the wall by my booth. It says it all!!!!

Thing 7

First I got signed into my Yahoo mail and my winking avatar showed up with an email. That was kind of fun. We use Internet Explorer here at our library. I printed off alot of the information on all of the subjects. I'm sure that I can use some of the helpful hints. I did not set up anything yet for instant messaging. As of now, I'm not a fan of text messages and maybe I'll change my mind about it in the future.

The video by Stephen Benedict--How Stuffworks was pretty interesting. I have never heard of Elkhorn coral before and how they harvest coral.

In Google talk regarding instant communication-chatting, I find no use for that right now in my job. Maybe if I had free time and wanted to chat to a friend, I might try it.

I'm old fashioned yet. I still prefer face to face communication. Someone told me not too long ago, that emailing sometimes can come across meaning something totally different than what the emailer was originally trying to say. Email is an excellent tool and has saved me alot of time. Several of the meeting notices I receive by email are now posted daily as to where before I would receive them by mail and sometimes they would arrive late.

Currently library patrons that chose to, receive notices from our library by email stating that their item or items that they requested are in, also any materials that are overdue or lost.

I can see that by the Library Journal that I am behind in the times with IM. With 11 million Americans using it in the corporate world, I imagine that libraries are not far behind. I could see where IM with reference could be a great tool.

The video where the gentleman proposed to his future bride thru text messaging was really fun to watch. Some of the videos I couldn't hear very well. Access to the reference collection was an interesting on along with the UC Mercel students loving the library and viewing the different parts of the library and how QUIET it was.

Went into Minitex Webinars and looked at the different types of Web Conferences. Checked out the Podcast about OPAL and listened to part of what Tom Peters had to say. I have participated in a couple of WEB conferencing sessions for training purposes. I signed on Connexion Client 2.0-The Express Tour with Mark Wilhelim. I tried to download it but all I got out of it was a loud blast into my headphones which needless to say, my ears rang for about an hour after that.

Thing 7 seemed to go on for ever and I do have alot of the materials printed off for future reference. Face to face communication is still the best but with our fast changing technology all of the options can be put to good use.

Things 6 Online Image Generators

This was alot of fun. A little confusing at first. I love the trading card idea. Tried the mosaic maker working with photos. I created a trading card and saved it to my computer.

I created two license plates, one with the Minnesota decal and one with the Iowa decal. I see I mispelled woman and I thought I had edited it, but no such luck. I found this thing interesting and a little easier to complete. I also added a cute puppy picture to my blog. ToonDoo seems like that would be interesting also but who has this much time to fool around. I know I sure don't.

I don't like the fact that the web page expires too soon.

Thing 5

I went into "Ten Best Flickr Mashups" and snooped around in there. I created a badge and that was fun. I printed that off rather than save it.
I went into Clockr, Big Huge Labs, Spell with Flickr(I didn't care for that--too dark to read the instructions, etc)splashr and create puzzles. My favorite one is Flickr Color Pickr because I love to decorate using lots of color. My blog now has lots of color. I really like this feature and would use it alot.

THING 4

I tried to watch the Flickr video and I guess it is no longer available. I started with the magical tour and explored Flickr. I got my Flickr account set up at Yahoo. I love sunsets and decided to settle on posting this beautiful sunset on my blog. Recently I was on vacation and this one reminded me of the one that I watched. This seemed to take alot of time as the server kept going down or stated not available. I can't see where anyone could get this done in 15 minutes. My opinion.

Thing 3

I have my RSS account set up and I believe I added some feeds. I have been all over between Google and bloglines. I'm not sure if I did it right but I did save several news items. I have always been interested in the daily news(my husband thinks I watch too much news)because I want to keep up-to-date on the daily local and world happenings. I set up an account in both Google Reader and Bloglines. I doubt I will use either very much as my days are busy with library work and that has to be my first priority. But if the opportunity arrives that I have some free time, I definitely will use the opportunity to view the headlines on Google and Bloglines.

Time off

Sorry, I'm leaving on vacation and the "23 Things" will have to wait until I get back. I'll probably have a SENIOR MOMENT when I return because I'll mostly likely forget how I did some this...ha Anyway, I'll try not to have too much fun on vacation and I am going to try not to think about work or 23 things......maybe.

Thing 2 "The Ongoing Web Revelolution"

Hey, I changed my font. I thought I would be bold and do it for this blog. Anyway, I also printed off this article. The new Web is a tool for bringing together the small contributions of millions of people and making them matter. I like that sentence. Makes sense to me. With my library certification, I did alot of homework on data privacy and how to protect our users. Ofcourse the users now have the choice to opt in--to participate by sharing and using their library data. The paragraph on "More Building Blocks" is quite interesting because libraries nowdays as stated in the article are "blazing new trails"!! I do plan on returning to this article when I have more time.

Thing 2 Library 2.0 John Blyberg

I have read the article very quickly and like I said in the comment field of the article, I'm not tech person but am always willing to learn. I agree that technology has changed dramatically in the last ten years and I always wonder if I can keep up with all the changes but somehow it all clicks in and we move forward until the next update. Some of the info seems pretty deep to me and I printed off the article to use for further reference. I enjoyed reading the comments from the article. I really liked the comment from Plinius, Kjernen. That is kind of how I feel sometimes just trying to catch up with all of the changes but then like anything else, change is usually for the good.

Thing 2 Video Stephen Abram

To start out with I had some connection problem with watching the video. Not sure if it was me or my computer. A couple of things that stick out in my mind that I try to do in my own life is to set a goal and make it a priority to learn more about the library field. He stressed not to wait for things to happen but to take that 15 minutes a day and make use of it. (this is were I have problems listening to the video and understanding everything he said).

Mr. Abram talked about being addicted to bloglines. One of his statements was choosing to reflect on what you learn. That by doing 23 Things our library will look different to me. He also said that "23" creates more excitement in the environment. It was a pretty interesting video and he believes in his product.

Thing 1 "My Pink Avatar"

I know some of you are wondering about my group of "Pink" avatars. Well, I got a little carried away with them and clicked too many times but I am finally getting the hang of this. We are suppose to have fun with this and myself and a few of my co-workers got a good laugh out of all of my "Pink" ladies. This is something new for me and I'm trying very hard to do it right. Eventually I will delete a few of the ladies from my avatar but for now I'm having fun with it.
